Exemplar Programme

The Exemplar Programme was developed here at Bolton as a tool to raise standards in patient care and to sustain and encourage adherence to standard work. Initially, both wards and clinical departments undergo a 14 week intensive programme, designed to identify areas for improvement, with particular emphasis on the Trust's four main aims:

  • Best Care for Better Health
  • Responsible Use of Resources
  • Valued, Respected and Proud – for staff, patients and the public

Once the 14 week programme has been completed, the ward or department will have a validation assessment to establish whether Exemplar status has been achieved.

The standards achieved through successful completion of the Exemplar Programme are expected to be sustained therefore annual re-validation will take place.

Regular review of the Achievement Boards and Quality Framework tool are two of the methods used to ensure continuous monitoring of the quality standards. These tools also help to raise public awareness of performance measures in each ward or department.
