The smart surroundings are more in line with your own home rather than a hospital which will encourage you to feel more relaxed and in control. The Birth Suite has five bedrooms one of which has a large birth pool. All of the room have en-suite facilities with most of them having a bath and shower.
Healthy women who go into spontaneous labour at full term and have had a straightforward pregnancy and have no other medical problems or previous difficult births will benefit from choosing the birth suite. The area is staffed by experienced midwives who will support you during labour.
Birth is more likely to be straightforward without the use of drugs and so your midwife and birth companions will encourage you to move around freely, trying different positions and relaxation techniques in an unhurried atmosphere. Following the birth of your baby you will stay on the birth suite until you feel comfortable enough to go home, usually within a few hours.
If labour and birth do not progress smoothly or you decide to opt for an epidural then we can transfer you downstairs to the Central Delivery Suite where you will be cared for by experienced midwives, Obstetricians and Anaesthetists.
