Work On Antenatal Day Unit Begins
Work is due to start on Monday on another important phase in the work to make the Royal Bolton Hospital a regional centre of excellence for the care of women, children and babies.
The first building work to expand the delivery suite in the Princess Anne Maternity Unit started in September, and is now well underway. The next phase - the building of a new antenatal day unit will start on Monday.
The new antenatal day unit will be a purpose-built facility where mums to be will receive the very best care during their pregnancy. It will include a new high-tech scanning area, a new lounge where mums can relax with their families, a new reception and waiting area and a five bed area for mums who may need observation.
The new building is next to the Princess Anne Maternity Unit and is due for completion during 2010.
Making it Better implementation manager Moira Roberts, said: "We are pleased so far with the progress of the building works. The start of antenatal day unit is another exciting milestone in the project and when complete, it will really transform the care we can provide for women during their pregnancy."
As part of the Making it Better project, the Royal Bolton Hospital is investing £20 million to improve and expand services for women, children and babies. The work is due for completion before the end of 2011.
