Calling All Photographers

The Royal Bolton Hospital is launching an exciting new photography competition to help give the hospital restaurant a new look.

The hospital now wants as many local people as possible to get snapping and send in their entries before the deadline of December 1st.

Entries must have a Bolton theme, and the winning picture will be placed pride of place billboard size on the main wall in the busy Minerva Restaurant.

An expert panel will then judge the entries in mid December, and the winning photograph will be unveiled at a special ceremony in January.

Medical illustration manager Ruth Eaves has helped organise the competition. She said: "We know there’s a real wealth of excellent photographers in Bolton, and we hope they’ll take the opportunity to have their work shown on a large scale in a public place where hundreds of people congregate every day. The photographs can be of any subject, but they must be related to the town in some way. They must also be in black and white only."

Entries will be judged during December by Royal Bolton Hospital chairman Cliff Morris, Bolton News picture editor Richard Rollon, Royal Bolton senior photographer Lucy Tinniswood, medical illustration manager Ruth Eaves, catering manager Margaret Meadows and patient representative Dick Whittaker. The winning design will be unveiled in the new look restaurant during January.

To enter the competition, the following points must be considered:

• The image must be in some way related to the surrounding area and/or communities of the hospital, Bolton or the district. This could be a direct reference or something very subtle.
• The image must be in black and white only
• You may enter a maximum of two images per person
• The image must be available as a high resolution digital image
• The space to fill is 589cm wide x 249cm high

How to send your image:

Initially we require entries as a 72dpi jpeg file, of between 1.5 and 3mb in file size. This is for judging only. Please remember that the final image is in a landscape format, so the image you send should follow this ratio, or you should explain how you envisage the image filling the final space.

The image you send must exist as a high quality, high resolution file. The chosen image will be sent for production as a full size 360dpi TIFF or EPS file, therefore the image should have been taken with a high quality digital camera, or be able to be scanned from a printed image.
