PIP Silicone Gel Breast Implants

In view of the recent concerns about PIP silicone gel breast implants, Bolton NHS Foundation Trust would like to reassure patients and public that these implants have never been used at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

An expert advisory group led by NHS Medical Director Sir Bruce Keogh has concluded that there is not enough evidence to recommend routine removal of PIP implants and agreed that there was no link with cancer.

However the group also acknowledged that many of the PIP implants are made of non-medical grade silicone which should not have been implanted in women. Women who have had such implants should contact their GP or the team who carried out their surgery if they have concerns. If other women have concerns they should speak to their GP in the first instance.

The advisory group's full report can be found at www.dh.gov.uk Nursing's Care Campaign.
