Ear, Nose and Throat

Otorhinolaryngology is medical terminology for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the ear, nose and throat and the head and neck area.

The Ear, Nose and Throat department at Royal Bolton Hospital is situated on the 1st Floor 'of the 'F' Block. It offers services for both adults and children, with a play area for the children within the waiting area. Adjacent to the department is the Audiology department (see Audiology).

The Clinic times are Monday to Thursday from 9.00 am to 5.30pm and on Friday from 9.00 am to12.30 pm. There are 4 consulting rooms, a treatment room and an investigation room. There are certain radiological and audiological tests and endoscopic examinations carried out at the time of the consultation. Each consulting room is set up with an examination chair and equipment which is used by the doctor to aid diagnosis.

The Department is fully equiped with facilities needed to offer a safe and quality service for both adults and children in Clinic, as day cases and inpatient surgery.

Rhinology:                          Blocked nose/ Nasal discharge/allergic rhinitis/sinusitis/ headaches/ facial pain

Otology:                               Hearing loss, tinnitus, dizziness and balance problems, ear infections

Laryngology:                       Hoarseness of voice / swallowing problems

Head and Neck Surgery: Recurrent tonsillitis, neck lumps, infections

Orbital lacrimal surgery:  Watering of eyes

Thyroid / parathyroid:        Lumps in thyroid gland, disorders of calcium metabolism

Salivary gland:                   Swelling of glands, pain in glands

Snoring:                              Snoring and sleep apnoea

Facial Plastics:                  Lumps / moles/scars

Paediatric ENT:                 Tonsillitis / snoring / hearing loss/ prominent ears / ear infections/
