General Description of Services
The Pain Service provides a service to both acute and chronic pain patients.
A significant proportion of the population suffers from chronic pain. This can be due to a range of different conditions which include nerve damage, back pain, arthritis, cancer, etc.
Acute pain is pain that is associated with acute injury or disease. Chronic pain is pain that has persisted for longer than three months or past the expected time of healing.
The service currently consists of two highly - qualified Consultant Anaesthetists, who offer a range of specialty services for the management of pain. They are assisted by a small team of nurses and administrative staff.
